Welcome to Sewn and Sprouted! What to expect from me.
Hey there! I’m Marie and I won’t bore you by repeating everything that I wrote for my About page.
This blog is for the seasoned sewist and the beginner, this blog is for Christian mothers, and this blog is for gardeners and homesteaders! Whether you’re new to something or have been practicing one of the above for a few years, I know you’ll find something to takeaway.

This blog is the culmination of all the things I’ve learned and grown in over the last several years in my time as a wife, mother, and homesteader. It’s bringing together all the threads of the things I love and sharing them with you! I’ve been writing (or perhaps I should saying typing) ever since I learned how. From writing plays staged by my sisters and I, to heartfelt posts I left on social media walls, to these words here on the screen in front of you. Writing is one of the talents woven throughout my life that I feel called to use for the Lord’s glory.
Oh, the Lord. When I think about my Lord and all He’s done for me, I am overwhelmed. He has stood beside me in my darkest moments. His presence and faithfulness have marked my life and I am changed for the better.
I’ve been a believer for most of my life as I was raised in a Christian home. I don’t have a notable testimony but throughout hardships in my life the Lord was my anchor. And praise be to Him, He gave me a husband that loves Him like I do. One of my purposes in starting this blog is to share the things He has taught me in my short years as a parent and in the times spent in the garden. Faith is such a huge part of my life, it would be impossible to separate it from the rest.
Sewn…
Which leads me to one of my hobbies, whose name also made it into the blog title: sewing, in the form of hand embroidery. A few years ago I was desperate for something purposeful to do with my hands for fun. Crocheting, while fun, frustrated me because I had a difficult time counting stitches with four (at the time) young children. Then ads popped up on my social media for a hand embroidery kit from a Christian company. I took the plunge. I’ve never looked back!
It’s one of my missions to make you love it as much as I do because it’s so beginner friendly, and the cheapest hobby around! So stay tuned for tutorials and the like. I hope, very soon, to be bringing you faith based digital patterns alongside those tutorials.
But in addition to hand embroidery, I also recently purchased my first sewing machine. I procrastinated this purchase because, honestly, I was overwhelmed. I didn’t know what I wanted to make, didn’t feel like I had the time, and I certainly didn’t feel excited about having to relearn it all. But then I found a pattern for a bag and all the sudden my desire to make it overcame my objections. It is presently the most expensive bag I own, being a thrifter and all, and then the cost of fabric these days. Hah!

and Sprouted
These hobbies are well and good but they are truly just a fraction of how I spend my day to day life. We have had a garden for several years now and we raise food for the purpose of preserving it. We own a small homestead, just a few acres, and we raise meat chickens, pigs, sheep, and egg-layers too. My husband runs most of the outdoor chores, but my job (and I prefer it this way!) is the food/garden/preservation.
By choice, we largely cook from scratch and aim for organic, regenerative practices on our farm. If that resonates with you, you’re definitely in the right place! And if not, that’s okay too, because it won’t be everything I share here.
Coming down the pipeline will be posts on seed starting, garden planning, spring planting, etc. If there’s something you’d like to see particularly, please share below in the comments! (And that goes for sewing/crafting, too.)
As we have focused more and more on raising our own food, I’ve noticed very few places out there that about what to cook with the food you raise. We strive for food independence and that means buying in bulk the things we cannot grow ourselves. Often, a quick trip to the grocery store just isn’t feasible! So I’ve had to learn how to cook with the ingredients I have on hand. I plan to share these things as we go, recipes and helpful advice, but it isn’t my desire to become a food blog.

Wrapping up, the Threads of this Mother
I am truly excited to have a place to share these threads of my life with you. Our family recently saw Angel Studios’ David movie and while all the songs are sung on repeat around here, the song Tapestry comes to mind very frequently. God created us to be unique individuals, and we all have different threads and colors in our tapestry. I hope the threads of mine tell a story of His faithfulness and encourage you to keep on.
I’ll close with this: what are you most excited to do in 2026? I’m already living out mine. 😉
Your friend,
Marie
